This site was developed to try to provide a "one-stop shopping" portal for air quality tools. Primarily designed to be accessed from the Wildland Fire Decision Support System, it also exists as a stand-alone site.

The goals of the site are 4-fold:

1. Provide a single gateway to a variety of national-scope air quality tools.
2. Connect the collected tools with information already entered (e.g., in WFDSS) to avoid duplication of data entry
3. Drill down in each tool for the best-guess relevant information (ideally, in a single-click)
4. Provide help, training, and technical support information to make it easy for users to navigate and understand the tools

It is worth noting that the collected tools are run at various external sites, and are typically research-grade tools that are being brought to the operational setting. As such, the WFDSS-AQ Portal should be considered experimental, and the 2010 western wildfire season is considered a test and learning experience. (We want your feedback - please contact us).

The 8 tools collected so far represent a wide array of complexity, information types, and interfaces. These 8 tools were selected due to their availablity and national (CONUS) scope. Additional tools are being developed for incorporation. Please see the documents and presentations sections of the help pages for more information on the purpose and future direction of WFDSS-AQ.

The Wildland Fire Air Quality Tools Portal has been (as is continuing to be) developed by the USFS PNW AirFire Team in partnership with WFDSS, the Desert Research Institute's Center for Fire Ecological Applications (DRI/CEFA), and Sonoma Technology, Inc.
